Real Madrid’s new signing Arda Guler has been ruled out for six weeks after undergoing knee surgery, the club confirmed on Monday.
The player was operated on his right knee after he picked up a meniscus injury in July.
“Our player Arda Guler has been operated on today for arthroscopy of the right knee under the supervision of the Real Madrid Medical Services,” the club stated in a brief statement.
“Guler will begin his recovery process in the next few days.”
The 18-year-old was the fifth summer signing of the Los Blancos and he was signed for a fee of €18m plus add-ons, with a sell-on clause also included in the deal.
The Turk got injured during a training session during Madrid’s pre-season tour and did not play a single game in the United States.
The club reported his meniscus injury on July 29.
The footballer suffered a partial tear of the internal meniscus in his right knee, an injury for which almost all specialists recommend surgery.
The Los Blancos are having a very tough time as just within the last seven days, their first-choice goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and centre-back Eder Militao tore their Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL).
Both players are likely to be out for the rest of the season.
Militao, 25, twisted his left knee during Saturday night’s clash with Athletic Bilbao.
In the 47th minute, as he charged towards Bilbao’s player to win the ball, the player slipped due to the wet surface and ended up twisting his left knee.
Meanwhile, Courtois' left knee turned when he went to pick up a ball in the final training game on Thursday (August 10).
The Belgian’s best-case scenario is returning to the pitch in April.
Real Madrid have already signed Kepa Arrizabalaga on a loan deal for one year to cover for the Belgian.
But they are not planning to sign a new centre-back to cover for Militao. As it stands, Carlo Ancelotti will be using the centre-back pairing of Antonio Rudiger — who also tore his ACL in 2016 — and David Alaba with only one defender as a backup in Nacho Fernandez.
